‘We Can’t Afford to Lose Midwifery’ Option

A certified nurse-midwife assisted me in delivering our son two years ago at home.

I did see an obstetrician/gynecologist once during my pregnancy and was scheduled to deliver at Cedars. My first appointment with him was 10 minutes long and included some pamphlets on nutrition.

My first appointment with Home Birth Services was over an hour and included inventories of my meals, complete and full questioning about my background and an examination along with full explanations of what to expect and what was happening at this stage of my pregnancy.

I gave birth to a healthy 6-pound, 11-ounce boy after six hours of labor with no drugs, no episiotomy and no complications.

I feel that the medical profession is once again making private and personal choices for me and exerting their will through their financial and political clout.
