Firing of Loyola Coach Gets a Split Reaction
- Share via
I think the firing of Loyola Marymount basketball coach Jay Hillock is a tragedy and an injustice. Coach Hillock had overall winning records in his two seasons. He was committed not only to the athletic success of his players, but equally so to their academic success.
Loyola Athletic Director Brian Quinn was quoted as saying: “I don’t like losing in the first round of the (WCC) tournament.” What you really don’t like, Mr. Quinn, is the fact that you do not have the guts to back an excellent coach with a good record in the face of a very spoiled student body and alumni.
