Point Loma Nazarene Rallies to Beat Western Baptist

Point Loma Nazarene College scored 10 runs in the final three innings to come from behind and beat Western Baptist, 12-6, Wednesday at PLNC.
Jack Campbell hit two of PLNC’s four home runs, a three-run shot in the sixth and a two-run home run in the seventh. Rich Miller and Mike Hopper also hit homers for Point Loma.
Mark Smith pitched the final 3 1/3 innings for PLNC, allowing no hits and striking out four.
UC San Diego suffered only its second loss of the season as previously winless Central Washington tripped up the Tritons, 6-4, during the UCSD Invitational. Ernie Isola, David Rex, Dominic Dirksen and David Valdez all drove in one run each for UCSD (12-2-1). Jeff Zehnder went four for five for Central Washington (1-2).
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Second-ranked Stanford took a 5-1 victory from the University of San Diego at USD. USD’s only victory came from No. 3 singles player Tuck Kacharoen, who defeated Kristine Kurth, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Stanford improved to 16-1, and No. 14 ranked USD fell to 10-3.
Point Loma Nazarene defeated Luther University (Iowa), 6-3, behind No. 1 singles player Monica Clancy, who beat Alexander Martin, 6-1, 7-5. Clancy improved to 13-0 and PLNC improved to 10-4.
TRACK AND FIELD
Ketrell Berry led Mesa Community College to a men’s dual meet victory over Southwestern, 81-63, by winning the 100 meters (10.8 seconds) and the 200 meters (21.8). In the women’s meet, also won by Mesa, 86-29, Leslie Coons set a Mesa record in the javelin (149 feet, 4 inches).
