GARDEN GROVE — A 14-year-old Garden Grove girl was in critical condition Wednesday night after she jumped from the top of a truck she had been playing on when it started to move, police said.
The girl, whose name was not released, suffered major head injuries and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, Lt. Stu Finkelstein said.
Finkelstein said the injured girl and a 14-year-old friend climbed atop of a UPS delivery truck shortly before the 4:30 p.m. accident. Unaware that the two girls were on top of the truck, the driver drove off, Finkelstein said.
The first girl jumped from the truck as it began moving and was not injured, he said. But the second girl jumped when the truck was going 10 m.p.h. to 15 m.p.h. near Jerry Lane and Walnut Avenue.
