SAN DIEGO : Trial Date Set in Task Force Slayings

A former Escondido auto mechanic will go on trial June 15, charged with murder of two women whose deaths were investigated by the Metropolitan Homicide Task Force.

Ronald Porter, 45, pleaded not guilty Wednesday before San Diego Superior Court Judge Frederic L. Link, who set the trial date.

Porter is accused of killing Sandra Cwik, 43, in 1988 and Carol Gushrowski, 26, an El Cajon mother, in 1986. Their bodies were found in the Buckman Springs area of East County. He is also charged with five counts of attempted murder involving five other women and two counts of rape.
