Padua Problems: The Padua Hills Playwrights Festival will skip this summer’s round of workshops and productions because of financial difficulties. Artistic director Murray Mednick blamed the suspension on the group’s failure to obtain a city grant last year, as well as a disappointing fund-raiser last summer. A benefit performance of Mednick’s “Scar,” at the Met Theatre in Hollywood on April 8, will raise money for next summer when the group hopes to return to its home at Cal State Northridge. This summer would have marked the 15th annual festival.
