IOWA CITY, Iowa — Secelia Winkfield scored the winning basket in traffic Sunday as No. 10-ranked Southwest Missouri State defeated No. 7 Iowa, 61-60, in overtime in a second-round NCAA Midwest Regional game.
Melody Howard’s three-point shot with 21 seconds to play forged a 55-55 tie with the top-seeded Hawkeyes, who missed two shots in the last 7.5 seconds in regulation that would have won the game.
Howard and Tonya Baucom finished with 12 points for eighth-seeded Southwest Missouri State (29-2). Iowa (25-4) was led by Laurie Aaron’s career-high 25 points.
Southwest Missouri State, winner of 19 in a row, will play UCLA Thursday at the regional semifinal in Boulder, Colo.
