World IN BRIEF : TURKEY : Toll Rises to 45 as Troops, Kurds Clash

The death of 15 people in clashes between troops and Kurdish demonstrators in southeast Turkey brought the weekend death toll in the region to 45. Security officials in Diyarbakir, Turkey, said 10 people were killed and 20 wounded in Nusaybin on the Syrian border as troops clashed with marchers. In Yuksekova, near the Iranian and Iraqi borders, five people were killed and 32 injured when government forces clashed with a crowd rallying for Kurdish independence.
