Fun Shouldn’t Be a Crime

Regarding “Officials Try to Put Brakes on Cruising in Pacoima” (Times Valley Edition, March 1):
You gotta hand it to the cops. The reason the word dumb precedes cop so often in conversation that they’ve come to be considered a compound word ain’t because of some social conspiracy. It’s because they’re dumb.
They don’t want 2,000 kids cruising Laurel Canyon on Sunday night because every once in a while, one of them commits a crime.
So what the leader of the cops thinks is a good idea is just to punish everyone who hasn’t committed a crime.
