Civil Rights Bill
I can hardly wait for Assembly Speaker Willie Brown’s broad civil rights bill (March 4) to be passed so that once and for all every form of discrimination will be removed from our great state. His bill is splendidly broad in its scope and covers every societal bias and prejudice. How simply wonderful.
Brown said the bill has the “widest range of support that I have seen for a piece of civil rights legislation (in the 28 years) I have been here.” Present at his press conference was every liberal organization from the ACLU to NOW.
Absent, of course, were trial lawyers associations, who are embarrassed by the riches the bill provides them. Also absent were business groups that lament Brown’s mere announcement of his bill accelerates the decline of companies wanting to operate in California.
