American Shannon Miller and Dmitri Karonenko of the Commonwealth of Independent States were the top qualifiers for the McDonald’s Cup international gymnastics meet at Orlando, Fla.

Miller won the women’s preliminaries by scoring at least 9.9 on all four of her exercises. Karonenko scored a combined 57.650 and took the lead over Jarrod Hanks of the United States when Hanks faltered on the horizontal bar.
