Twice last week, Tustin found itself trailing in the fourth quarter to a strong team in the Southern Section II-AA playoffs. But in each case the Tillers rallied to win, and each time Fletcher was integrally involved. In the Tillers’ 50-48 victory over Cerritos Gahr Tuesday, Fletcher made a three-point shot to tie the score, 48-48, with 1 minute 50 seconds left. In a 62-60 victory over Pasadena Muir, he made a three-pointer to tie the score, 48-48, with 6:06 left. “Maurice has been hitting the three-pointer all year for us,” Coach Tom McCluskey said. “He’s an excellent shooter who has gotten better as the season has progressed. He’s improved light years in understanding how to sustain concentration, which has helped his overall game tremendously.” Fletcher made four three-pointers during the game and scored a team-high 23 points for the Tillers.
Other top performers:
Mike Bolster, a Huntington Beach wrestler who pinned Mark Hamann of Moreno Valley Canyon Springs to win the heavyweight class at the Southern Section Masters meet. Bolster pinned three of his four opponents in advancing to the State meet Saturday.
Matt Fuerbringer, who averaged 26.5 points and 11 rebounds in Estancia’s victories over El Dorado and Newbury Park in the Division III-AA playoffs.
Tim Gorman, a Los Alamitos goalkeeper who shut out Pomona Ganesha and defending Division 2-A champion Bell Gardens in helping the Griffins advance to the semifinals.
Miles Simon, who scored 24 points in Mater Dei’s 54-48 victory over Compton Dominguez in the Division I-A playoffs.
