Newport Harbor’s Sheward Declared Ineligible

Newport Harbor High School volleyball player Beau Sheward, an all-Southern Section 4-A selection last season, has been declared academically ineligible for at least part of this season, Sailor Coach Dan Glenn said Monday.
Sheward, who led Newport Harbor to the Southern Section 4-A finals as a junior last year, was expected to be one of the top players in Orange County this season.
Glenn said Sheward failed to pass academic requirements last semester and is ineligible until the winter-spring quarter ends in April. If Sheward improves his grades during the quarter, he can return to the team, Glenn said.
“We’re hoping he’ll be back by the middle of the league season,” Glenn said.
Newport Harbor returns four starters from last season’s 17-4 team that lost to San Marcos in four games in the section finals.
The Sailors are expected to be one of the top-seeded teams in the Orange County Championships March 14 at Newport Harbor.
Newport Harbor plays at Edison in a key nonleague match Friday night.
