OUTLOOK
Though some coaches have to scramble to find players, Esposito enters his second season with the Flames with a surplus of talented personnel. Many of them played football for Esposito on the school’s Southern Section Division X championship squad. “I’m looking to have a Bo Jackson team,” Esposito said. Southern California Christian lost only one player from last year, and the team’s depth has Esposito eyeing an Arrowhead League title. “I give us a pretty good nod,” he said. The Flames certainly have the hitting to get there. Jacot (.418 batting average last season), Williams (.395), Hatcher (.320) and Mike Caballero (.300) spark the team. “I like to run a lot. I like to put on hit-and-runs and steals,” Esposito said. “We are not a passive team. We try to make the other team make mistakes.” The pitching should be respectable, with starters Williams, Hatcher and Mattox returning, although Esposito said the staff could use a left-hander.
