Murdoch May Bid For N.Y. Daily News: Media baron Rupert Murdoch is considering a return to the U.S. newspaper market, according to a report in Newsweek magazine. Murdoch, who used to own the New York Post, will make an offer only if all other bids fail, the magazine said. The Daily News, once the nation’s biggest metropolitan daily, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year after the death of former owner Robert Maxwell.
