Ventura 9, Compton 6--Kasha Clemons was four for four and sparked a three-run rally with a two-out double in the seventh that gave host Ventura the lead for good in a nonconference game.
Reliever Pete Alamillo pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to record the save for Ventura (1-1). He struck out one and allowed one hit.
Moorpark 6, Rio Hondo 2--Jason Mitchell (1-0) pitched seven innings, yielding one run on three hits for host Moorpark (2-2) in a nonconference game. Von Herron’s two-run double capped a three-run seventh for Moorpark.
Billy Hall tripled and Jeff Sommer doubled for Moorpark.
Cal Poly Pomona 12, The Master’s 11--Master’s rallied from an 8-0 deficit to take an 11-10 lead in the ninth, but host Pomona (1-0) scored twice in the bottom of the inning in a nonconference game.
E.J. Pape’s grand slam in the seventh keyed a six-run rally for Master’s (1-2). Joe Pence added a triple, two singles and five runs batted in.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Master’s 75, Cal Baptist 60--Tom Bruner scored a game-high 18 points to lead host Master’s (17-8, 9-1) in an NAIA District 3 game.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
George Mason d. Cal State Northridge, 15-9, 11-15, 15-6, 15-10--The visiting Matadors, ranked No. 6 nationally, fell in their season opener in a nonconference match.
