A statewide coalition of environmental groups has awarded two county Democratic legislators high scores for their votes on the environment.
The California League of Conservation Voters also ranked two Assembly Republicans from Ventura County among the worst of state legislators.
The league praised state Sen. Gary K. Hart (D-Santa Barbara) and Assemblyman Jack O’Connell (D-Carpinteria) for voting to protect the environment. Out of 100 possible points for correct votes on such issues as air pollution, stream protection and timber harvesting reforms, the league awarded 96 points to Hart and 92 points to O’Connell.
The league also recognized retiring state Sen. Ed Davis (R-Santa Clarita) for scoring higher than any other Republican in the Senate with 71 points.
Assembly members Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) and Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) were among the lowest rated in either house, with scores of 4 and 15 respectively.
