Schools Chief to Leave in ’92

The superintendent of the Duarte Unified School District has said he will retire at the end of 1992.
Robert Packer, 58, made his announcement at the December school board meeting. He has been Duarte’s superintendent since March, 1985, and earns $90,700 annually.
Before coming to Duarte, Packer was deputy superintendent in Tustin for four years.
Before that he was principal of Costa Mesa High School in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District in Orange County.
Packer said he made his announcement one year early to give the school board time to pick a successor.
The district serves 4,449 students in the Duarte area.
