La Verne : School Improvements OKd

The City Council agreed Monday to spend $25,000 to install a new sound system at the Bonita High School stadium and $5,000 to paint the inside of the school’s gymnasium.
The council also agreed in concept to pay for additional improvements to the stadium area over the next two years.
The proposed improvements include new restrooms, landscaping and the completion of a parking lot at the corner of D Street and Durward Way.
Two members of the city’s Park’s Commission, Barbara Kastner and Diane Prim, objected, saying the council decided without getting a recommendation from the commission. Prim said that panel is being selectively bypassed.
In response, Mayor Jon Harry Blickenstaff and Councilman Thomas R. Harvey indicated they were unhappy with a previous commission recommendation on the school improvement plan.
