Region : Dump Fee Increase Studied
The Glendale City Council on Tuesday introduced an ordinance that would increase fees for dumping at the city’s Scholl Canyon landfill by 10%, to raise money for future waste-reduction programs.
The fees would not affect Glendale residents, but would affect residents of other cities that dump trash in the landfill. How much of the increase would be passed on to residents of those cities--including Pasadena, Altadena, La Crescenta, La Canada Flintridge, San Marino, Sierra Madre and South Pasadena--was unclear Wednesday.
Adding $2 to the $21.90 per ton fee now charged would bring an estimated $1.2 million to Glendale each year. The measure is up for a final vote Nov. 5 and if passed, would take effect in January.
