JUNIOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Antelope Valley Stays Unbeaten With 21-9 Victory Over Rio Hondo

Lamart Cooper’s 84-yard punt return for a touchdown broke open a close game in the third quarter and helped Antelope Valley College to a 21-9 victory over visiting Rio Hondo in a Foothill Conference football game Saturday.
The Marauders, the fifth-ranked team in the J. C. Athletic Bureau’s Southern California poll, improved to 5-0 and 3-0 in conference play.
Al Dawkins (69 yards in 12 carries) scored on a one-yard run early in the second quarter to give Antelope Valley a 7-0 lead, and Cash Achziger (63 yards in 10 carries) added a 36-yard scoring run two minutes later to give the Marauders a 14-0 lead at halftime.
WESTERN STATE CONFERENCE
Bakersfield 24, Ventura 17--The Pirates (1-3, 1-2) outgained host Bakersfield, 382-207 in total yardage, but the Renegades (2-2, 1-1) came out ahead on the scoreboard.
Ventura tied the score twice but never led. The Pirates tied it, 7-7, on their first possession on Matt Brimigion’s 51-yard pass to Shawn Young. Brimigion completed 13 of 29 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns.
Young caught four passes for 103 yards and scored later on a 30-yard pass from Brimigion to tie it, 14-14.
