NATION IN BRIEF : WISCONSIN : Lover Sentenced in Prison Escape

A man who helped his girlfriend, a convicted murderer, escape from a Wisconsin penitentiary was sentenced to a year in prison by a judge in Fond du Lac, Wis. Dominic Gugliatto, 36, was convicted of picking up Lawrencia (Bambi) Bembenek near the prison and transporting her to Canada last summer. Bembenek, 33, is seeking political asylum in Canada. She claims she was framed by vindictive Milwaukee police for the 1981 murder of her police detective husband’s ex-wife.
