SAN CLEMENTE : Youth Club Is Given $8,820 More by City

The City Council has allocated an additional $8,820 for further work on the Bonito Canyon Park Boy’s and Girl’s Club, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The money will come from the parks acquisition and development fund to help defray unforeseen costs of construction of the facility, which will include a gymnasium, game rooms, a teen center, two lighted basketball courts, parking, landscaping and irrigation improvements.
Club officials have raised more than $800,000 for the project. The City Council chipped in an additional $80,000 after approving construction in 1988. The city’s money was to be used for improvements at adjacent Bonito Canyon Park.
However, club officials requested additional funding from the city this summer after a 30% to 40% increase in lumber costs and higher-than-anticipated engineering, grading and drainage costs left the project short of funds.
