Firm to Help Replace Superintendent

More than a year after the controversial firing of Supt. McKinley Nash, officials with the Centinela Valley Union High School District have announced the hiring of a Sacramento-based firm to help them find a new top administrator.
Social Services of California Inc., which specializes in screening public school administrators throughout the state, will supervise the search for a new superintendent to head the 5,764-student district. The company charges a one-time fee of $10,000, plus expenses estimated to be under $6,000.
Elaine Boyce, the firm’s director of executive search services, said she would schedule confidential sessions with district parents, teachers, students and other members of the community in mid-October to help school officials define the qualities they want in a superintendent. Applications for the post will be accepted until Jan. 8, 1992. The district’s school board expects to make a final decision by the end of January.
Nash, who is black, was fired in July, 1990. He has filed a claim with the state accusing the predominantly Latino school board of discrimination and harassment in his firing.
