Doctor in Sexual Assault Case Arrested Again
- Share via
Dr. Yahya (Joe) Lavi, a Brentwood orthopedic surgeon accused of raping and sexually molesting his patients, has been arrested and was charged Monday with operating without a medical license.
The city attorney’s office charged Lavi with practicing medicine without a license, falsely advertising as a doctor and illegally dispensing a dangerous drug without a prescription.
Lavi was arrested Sept. 4--almost three months after the state revoked his medical license--after allegedly treating an undercover state Medical Board investigator who came to his office complaining of a sore knee. His trial on the felony sexual assault charges is set for Sept. 30. Lavi will plead not guilty to the current charges at a Sept. 26 hearing, said his lawyer, Gerald Chaleff.
