THOUSAND OAKS : Inspection Closes Doughnut Shop

County health authorities shut down a Thousand Oaks doughnut shop last week after an inspection found the kitchen area infested with cockroaches.
E.T. Donuts, in the 1700 block of Avenida de Los Arboles, was closed Aug. 26 and reopened the next day after an exterminator was called in, said Elizabeth Huff, restaurant inspections coordinator for the county Environmental Health Department.
An inspector also ordered that the shop’s floors, baseboards and icing containers be cleaned, that all foods be kept in sealable containers and that unapproved insecticides be removed from the shop, Huff said.
“Cockroaches generally come from disgusting areas and you don’t want them walking across the food or utensils,” Huff said. “But they have never been conclusively tied to food-borne illnesses.”
