He Will Think Twice the Next Time He’s Tempted to Oversleep

Having spent an enjoyable stay in the area last October, using the excellent local motel facilities, I was interested in your report (Times, Aug. 15) of the man who was shot by the police, who were called because he failed to vacate a motel room by the designated time.

Considering I am an incurable late riser when on vacation--and prone to being insufferable for the first hour or so after leaving my bed--it comes as a shock to realise that I risked a similar fate several times over!

I can visualise the epitaph on my tombstone:

Here lies a man whose final fate

Was getting out of bed too late.

Vacate your room by 11 o’clock

Or you may suffer a similar shock.

I haven’t been put off by the event, but when I pay my next visit I shall be carrying a reliable alarm clock.
