Volunteers Sought for Two Projects

San Diego County court officials and UC San Diego researchers are seeking volunteers for two separate projects.
Court officials need volunteers to care for children in the waiting room at the downtown Family Courthouse.
The volunteers are needed for 3 1/2 hours each week to help children through stressful periods and to keep them from being left unattended in hallways, a court spokeswoman said.

UCSD researchers need volunteers ages 40 to 70 to participate in diabetes studies. Individuals may be lean or overweight, and are eligible even if they have Type II diabetes, a university spokeswoman said.
Volunteers will be given a free medical examination to qualify them for specific studies. Most studies will require a one- to three-day commitment, and participants will be paid from $50 to $300, based on the type and number of studies they are assigned to.
The studies are being conducted by UCSD with the Metabolic Research Center at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in La Jolla.
