A member of the Texas agency that administers boxing said the organization will conduct an inquiry into the International Boxing Federation’s junior bantamweight title fight last weekend, in which Kid Akeem Anifowoshe was seriously injured.
Anifowoshe, a Nigerian living in Las Vegas, suffered life-threatening head injuries while losing a 12-round unanimous decision Saturday to Robert Quiroga of San Antonio.
After the referee announced the decision, Anifowoshe began vomiting blood and collapsed, in a coma. He regained consciousness Sunday after undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on the brain. His condition remains critical but stable, a hospital spokesman said.
