Nation IN BRIEF : LOUISIANA : Republicans OK Governor Candidate

Rep. Clyde C. Holloway won the Louisiana Republican Party’s gubernatorial endorsement. Two other GOP candidates, Gov. Buddy Roemer and state Rep. David Duke, a former Ku Klux Klan leader, were not eligible for endorsement because they had refused to sign a pledge to drop out of the race if the party’s backing went to someone else. National Republican officials had said they would support Roemer, who is in his first term, no matter what happened at the state convention in Lafayette. The GOP meeting was marked by attacks on Roemer, who switched to the Republican Party in March.
