La Verne : $5,000 Fee for New Homes
The City Council voted 4 to 0 Monday to impose a $5,000 fee on each new home developed in the foothills area of the city.
The ordinance went into effect immediately, and applies to all new homes built in the Hillside Development Overlay Zone in north La Verne. Money raised by the ordinance will be used to purchase fire equipment and possibly to construct a fire station to help serve the area.
The measure was adopted at a special Monday workshop meeting because only three members were present at the regular meeting and at least four votes were required to adopt the measure as an urgency ordinance.
It was adopted as such and will be in place when several planned housing developments come before the city for approval.
