Bicyclist Struck in Intersection, Killed

IRVINE — A 32-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a van Tuesday morning as he was crossing an intersection, police said.
Robert Hifumi Odo of La Palma was heading east on Michelson Drive when he pedaled through the intersection at Fluor East and was struck by a van heading west, Irvine Police Lt. Mike White said.
Odo was not wearing a helmet, police said.
“The initial report is that the van was traveling at a slow speed,” White said, adding that the driver was not cited and apparently had broken no traffic laws.
Odo was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:30 a.m. accident.
