Club Helps Buy Hearing Tester

LA MIRADA — The Sertoma Club of Whittier has donated $1,000 to Biola University’s Speech and Hearing Clinic. The donation will be used to purchase an audiometer, a reinforcement device for testing the hearing of preschool children.
The audiometer is installed into the hearing-testing booth and works as a reward system for children. When the frequency sounds are heard, the child pushes a button and sees an animal play the drums or dance. The device is designed to reinforce cooperative behavior and alleviate boredom on the part of the child.
The Speech and Hearing Clinic is a low-cost therapy clinic run by the communication department at Biola University in La Mirada. It is open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The clinic offers individual therapy as a community service.
For more information about the audiometer or the Speech and Hearing Clinic, please contact the university communication department at 903-4804.
