Bobby Witt, the Texas Rangers’ winningest pitcher last year, will be sidelined for at least a month because of a possibly torn rotator cuff.
The Rangers said Tuesday they will conduct further tests on Witt’s right shoulder to determine the full extent of the injury.
Witt, who is 3-3 this season with an earned-run average of 4.25, had a 17-10 record in 1990 with a 3.36 ERA. He was 14-2 after June 28.
Nolan Ryan is scheduled to start for the Rangers tonight against the Minnesota Twins after spending 15 days on the disabled list because of problems with his right shoulder.
Ryan, 3-3 with a 2.94 ERA in seven starts, pitched his seventh no-hitter May 1 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
