A 23-year-old man was killed early Thursday when he walked into the path of a van, Chula Vista police said.
David Soto Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Everett Mauger of the coroner’s office.
Martinez was walking on the sidewalk in the 500 block of E Street at 7:40 a.m. when he stepped into the street and was struck by the van, Sgt. Tom Schaefer said. The driver was not arrested.
Martinez lived in the 100 block of Brightwood Avenue, a few blocks from the accident site, and was unemployed, Schaefer said.
