Girl, 4, Hit by Pickup at Intersection, Killed

A 4-year-old girl was killed when she was struck by a pickup truck and pinned against a light pole in Boyle Heights as she stood on a sidewalk with her mother waiting for a traffic light to change, officers said.
Cristy Gastelum died at the scene and her mother, whose name was not immediately available, suffered minor injuries.
Los Angeles Police Sgt. Richard Greenwood said a driver who allegedly ran a red light and hit the left-turning truck, knocking it up on the sidewalk, was booked on suspicion of manslaughter. She was not immediately identified. The accident occurred at Brooklyn and Soto streets.
