World champion Ayrton Senna of Brazil set an unofficial track record in winning the pole position for the Brazilian Grand Prix at Sao Paulo. Senna, driving a McLaren-Honda, clocked a fast lap of 1 minute 16.392 seconds over the 2.68-mile Interlagos circuit. He averaged 126.646 m.p.h. over the track he helped design two years ago.
