A fire that broke out at a Port Hueneme foundry early Saturday morning caused six employees to be treated for smoke inhalation, Ventura County Fire Department officials said.
The fire at Pac Foundries, 725 Industrial Ave., began shortly before 6:30 a.m. when an open flame workers were using to heat up knives ignited the ducting system, Capt. Lee Heise said.
Of the approximately 30 people evacuated from the building, six were taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation, Heise said. All were treated and released, Nursing Supervisor Adel Blanco said.
About 20 firefighters contained the fire within 30 minutes.
The loss to contents was estimated at $5,000. The concrete industrial building was not damaged, Heise said.
