Chavez Tops Tonight’s Irvine Card

IRVINE — Ernie Chavez of Santa Ana, who dominated boxing at the Irvine Marriott last year, is the featured fighter on tonight’s card.

Chavez, the California welterweight champion, takes on Alberto Alcarez of Mexico in a 10-round non-title bout.

Chavez (13-0) won five main events last year at Irvine, including four by knockout, and a unanimous decision over Charles Young in November to take the state title.

Another local boxer, Mike Semaza of Villa Park, will fight in the six-round semi-main event.
