Other Division II:
Carlsbad 69, Torrey Pines 43--Carlsbad forward Vanessa Nygaard had an announcement to make after she scored 21 points in her team’s victory.
“We haven’t even played our best game yet,” Nygaard said. “We can play a lot better.”
They may have to if they are going to beat top-seeded El Cajon Valley, who handed the Lancers their only loss of the season.
“We weren’t really into the first time we played them,” Nygaard said. “When they got ahead on us we just watched them. But they helped us learn how to play.”
Is Nygaard ready to play El Cajon Valley this time?
“I don’t want anything else,”she said.
The Lancers (23-1) ran off to a 14-3 lead four minutes into the game, before Torrey Pines closed to within 25-19 midway through the second quarter.
Colleen Peck and Daphnee Brownson led Torrey Pines with 11 points each.
