Agoura’s Drossin to Run Cross-Country for Arkansas

Deena Drossin of Agoura High, a three-time state Division I cross-country champion, has made a commitment to attend the University of Arkansas.
Drossin, the defending state champion in the 3,200 meters, made her decision Thursday after taking a recruiting trip to Arkansas last weekend. She also had visited Oregon and Arizona of the Pacific 10 Conference.
“Deena just had a real good feeling about the school when she returned from her trip,” Agoura Coach Bill Duley said. “She really liked the atmosphere there and the serenity of the surrounding community.”
Drossin, who finished sixth in the 1990 Kinney national cross-country championships, was expected to be out of town until tonight, according to Duley. She will sign a letter of intent April 11, the first day of the next signing period.
“I was surprised she made the decision as quickly as she did,” Duley said. “But she was very set on going (to Arkansas) after getting back from her trip.”
Arkansas, which finished sixth in last year’s NCAA Division I women’s cross-country championships, is coached by Lance Harter, who guided Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to eight consecutive Division II cross-country titles from 1982-89.
