COUNTYWIDE : Chavez to Address Farm Workers
- Share via
United Farm Workers leader Cesar Chavez will address Ventura County farm workers today in Oxnard on new pension benefits for UFW members and the union’s continuing nationwide boycott of table grapes.
All farm workers in the region who have worked under UFW contracts have been invited to the 6 p.m. session. The meeting at Juanita School, 224 N. Juanita Ave., will be conducted in English and Spanish.
The UFW began the grape boycott last year to protest the use of pesticides that the union claims causes health problems among field hands.
Before founding the UFW nearly 30 years ago, Chavez started in politics in Oxnard by registering Latinos to vote.
