Henry Kramer; Music Center Benefactor

Henry T. Kramer, a textiles industrialist, arts patron and philanthropist who helped raise millions of dollars for the Music Center, has died.

Kramer died Wednesday of a massive heart attack on the courts of the Beverly Hills Tennis Club. He was 75.

In 1982, Kramer and Esther Wachtell were founding co-chairmen of the Music Center Mercado, an eclectic supermarket of donated gifts ranging from Rolls-Royces to race horses and an opportunity to bid to conduct “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Hollywood Bowl.

Kramer was credited with attracting donations of gifts and decorating talent from Bullock’s, the May Co., Robinson’s and the Broadway and helping coordinate the activities of 2,000 volunteers.

Nearly $2 million was raised to help erase deficits in 1982-83 alone.

His other involvement with the Music Center was equally extensive.

He was a member of the Music Center Cabinet for (fund-raising) Campaigns for 1990-91 and a longtime Benefactor.

Among his honors was a humanitarian award from the National Jewish Hospital in Denver for his contributions to Los Angeles.

Before his retirement several years ago he was president of Lee Mar Corp. of California.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Roslyn, two daughters and two grandchildren.

There will be no services.
