So much for the high school basketball experts at The Times. For the second time in less than a week, The Times’ No. 1-ranked team was upset.
On Wednesday, Fallbrook provided the latest surprise by edging Mt. Carmel, 66-65, in a Palomar League game played at Fallbrook.
It was a tight game with seconds remaining when Fallbrook’s Chris Miller hit two free throws to make it 66-62.
After the free throws, Fallbrook (8-6, 1-2) cleared the court to avoid a foul and Joe Young hit a three-point shot, which was not enough as time ran out.
Miller finished with a game-high 32 points. Bob Nolan was the only other Fallbrook player in double figures. He scored 10 points. He also led Fallbrook in rebounds with seven.
Mt. Carmel fell to 12-2, 2-1.
The first upset came Friday when Lincoln upset then-No. 1 Morse, 78-56.
