WASHINGTON — The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Assn. today announced formation of a commission to speed the development and use of medicines to fight drug abuse.
The trade group said the commission will work with the National Institute on Drug Abuse to establish screening systems and other ways for determining which compounds have promise for treating drug dependency.
In addition, the nine-member panel, composed of officials and researchers from pharmaceutical firms, will have the authority to seek “support” from companies for research into issues relating to treating drug abuse.
