Grenades, ammunition and a rifle were found today in luggage abandoned in a baggage claim area two days after arriving aboard a jetliner at Los Angeles International Airport, a spokesman said.
The Police Department bomb squad was called to Terminal 7 shortly after 9 a.m. to remove two bags containing explosives, said Tom Winfrey of the Department of Airports. The FBI was also called in.
There was no explosion and no disruption of service, he said.
The bags apparently arrived Sunday aboard a United Airlines flight originating in Charlotte, N.C., with a stop at Washington’s Dulles Airport, airport spokesman Lee Nichols said. “United has had the bags for a couple of days and nobody claimed them,” he said.
