Stanford Invitational--Darcy Arreola of Cal State Northridge finished third in 16 minutes 56 seconds over the 5,000-meter course as the Northridge women finished 14th. Suzy Favor of Wisconsin and Buffy Rabbitt of UC Irvine placed first and second in 16:27 and 16:34, respectively. Derik Vett finished 42nd in 25:17 in the men’s five-mile race.

Occidental 21, Caltech 34; Occidental d. La Verne, forfeit--Marcial Beltran finished first, timing 26:51 over the five-mile course, to lead Occidental in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas.

MEN’S SOCCER

Cal State Northridge 5, U.S. International 2--Dominic Zapata scored the Matadors’ first goal within one minute of the start of the game to help visiting Northridge (4-5-3) build a 3-0 halftime lead in a match at USIU.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Pomona-Pitzer 1, Occidental 1--Jos Bergmann scored her 15th goal for the Tigers on an assist from Marti Anderson in a SCIAC match at Occidental (3-3-2, 3-1-2).

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal State Northridge d. USIU, 15-10, 15-9, 15-3; d. Nevada Reno, 15-7, 15-7, 15-9--Marianne Dixon had 27 kills in two matches and Nancy Nicholls added 18 kills as the Lady Matadors won the championship of the Nevada Reno Wolfpack Invitational. Northridge improved to 15-5.
