Deterioration of TV Programs
It was refreshing to read the column by Cal Thomas (“Goodby to a Romance That Led to the Sewer,” Commentary, Sept. 6) on the deteriorating values of our entertainment programs on commercial television.
Television executives must have their thinking caps on backwards if they honestly believe that their morally debased, so-called entertainment programs are based on “reality” in the homes all over America. The reality is that kids will emulate what they see and hear if they are not guided properly.
Television executives, writers and actors could be so powerfully influential in guiding our youth into a healthier future rather than into the sewers. However, as long as “values” only mean “economic worth” of a product or service to those mentioned above, as Thomas points out, we will never see “real values” on our entertainment programs unless more people speak out against the decadence inundating our television programs that permeate our living rooms and the minds of our young!
