BAGHDAD, Iraq — A videotaped message by President Bush to the Iraqi people arrived in Baghdad on Saturday, U.S. Embassy officials in the Iraqi capital said.
It was sent by the State Department via a diplomatic courier on Thursday.
The officials said the tape will be delivered by hand to Iraqi Foreign Minister Tarik Aziz.
On Thursday, Iraq’s ambassador to the United States, Mohammed Mashat, refused to accept the tape, citing diplomatic protocol. But he promised that it would be broadcast unedited when delivered.
Bush taped the message Wednesday after accepting a Baghdad offer to speak directly to the Iraqi people. The White House said it would give Baghdad five days to broadcast the message before it releases it for worldwide distribution.
