A pregnant woman and three children ranging in age from 2 to 13 were killed when their pickup truck was struck from behind by another pickup on a freeway shoulder in Norwalk, authorities said today.
The 22-year-old woman’s fetus also died and nine other people were injured in the accident Sunday night on Interstate 5, California Highway Patrol Officer Dave Boyland said.
The Ford Ranger pickup truck was stopped for unknown reasons on the southbound freeway shoulder just north of the Pioneer Boulevard exit when it was struck from behind shortly before 11 p.m. by a Toyota utility truck traveling on the shoulder at an estimated 60 to 65 m.p.h., Boyland said.
The driver of the second truck, Michael Anderson, 35, was arrested for investigation of vehicular manslaughter and was being held on $10,000 bond.
